人生到处都是陷阱。。。

上礼拜五碰见同事Lisa,聊起周末计划,她说“I'm going to a memorial in Berkeley but you don't want to hear about it..." 为什么呢?原来这是一个十五岁的小女孩Jenny,原来健康活泼的她十三岁打了Gardasil的抗HPV的最后一针疫苗后健康状况江河日下,很快全身瘫痪,直到两个礼拜前离世。HPV是一种只通过性传播的病毒,给青少年女孩子打预防针是为了未雨绸缪,以防HPV引起的子宫颈癌。Gardasil的疫苗据说很有效,没啥副作用,可是偏偏有五六起类似Jenny的例子,反应严重到死亡。

我听完了第一反应就是:"I don't want even the slightest chance that my Chloe should go through this. I hope this vaccine is not mandated."

Lisa说:"it's not mandated YET, but it looks like it will be soon. It's difficult to say no...how do you weigh the vast majority benefiting versus just a tiny proportion suffering? Besides, it's hard to establish a causal relationship. You are an economist,and you know about this..."

听完了我无话可说。就说我对毛小姐早早开始教育,希望不用打HPV疫苗, 可是毛小姐以一岁半的小小年纪,已经打了十好几针各色防疫针,每一针几乎都有警告说可能有"severe side effects ". 万一小概率事件发生了怎么办?我知道就是开车送毛小姐上幼儿园也会有车祸的可能性,无论我如何小心。可作为一个患得患失的妈妈,我只觉得人生到处都是陷阱, 打个针也能出事。。。
